COPS Monitoring Bulletin Newsletter #27

Upcoming Events Each year, Security Systems News recognizes the security industry's current and future leaders in their "20 under 40" special feature. For three consecutive years, a COPS team member has made the cut. This year, COPS Training Manager Melissa Hansen was honored in the 20 under 40 Class of 2014. Here’s what Melissa had to say when she spoke with SSN. SSN : What inspired you to get into the security industry? Melissa : I was referred by my cousin, who worked for COPS in 1995 when I started, and she loved the job, and told me what the position entailed, and from there I knew this was the right job for me – because I love having the opportunity to make a difference. SSN : What can be done to boost the ranks of young people in the industry? Melissa : I think what really helped me, and what’s really going to help the future generation, is having people who can inspire those working for them. We need people who are going to lead by example and teach that with hard work and dedication anything is possible. At COPS, our management fosters growth within the company – we love to promote within. All you have to do is come to work, be responsible, and just be eager. I think that’s what gets you the opportunities. SSN : Where, in terms of technology and trends, do you see the security industry going next? Melissa : I think the possibilities are obviously endless. What I really think the focus should be on is that, with every tragedy or disaster, more technology solutions are needed to avoid the same outcomes. This would include enhancing video capabilities and determining what tactics are needed to respond appropriately. Last year, over 700 guests enjoyeddinner, drinks, a chance at door prizes, a live band, and an opportunity to enter the mechanical bull riding contest for cash and prizes. The event will be held on April 15, 2015 from 5:30-10pm. Admission is free to all alarm dealers, but space is limited, so reserve your tickets today at copsmonitoring/bonanza. Helpful reminders • 12 months of detailed invoices are always available on MPower. • Want to know what services an account is being billed for? Just run the "Service Code Report" on MPower. • When deleting an account with services that are re-billed by COPS such as Telguard, Uplink, AlarmNet, etc., be sure that you also deactivate the account with the service provider. Otherwise, you will continue to be re-billed for the charges. • Need more supplies like Subscriber Agreements, Passcode Cards, or Brochures? You can order them from MPower. Best of all, they're free! • It's a good idea to periodically run the "Subscriber Missing Fields" report on MPower to highlight the accounts that are missing pertinent information such as verification telephone numbers, responding agency numbers, RP lists, passcodes, etc. • You can offer your customers the convenience of receiving text messages (eNotify) to their mobile devices upon the activation of an alarm, trouble, or open/close event. To activate eNotify, contact Dealer Support. • People that are no longer affiliated with an account (former employee, someone who moved, or an ex-friend, etc.) do not always respond well when we call them with an alarm notification. More importantly, your customers may not get the response they need when it counts. Asking your customers to update their call lists periodically ensures they get the best service possible. Watch highlights of past events at copsmonitoring.com/bonanza Shortly after the ISC East show on Wednesday, November 19, please join COPS Monitoring for our Dealer Appreciation Dinner at Churrascaria Plataforma - the finest all you can eat Brazilian steakhouse in the heart of New York City!
