COPS Monitoring Bulletin Newsletter #33

Did you know that your canceled accounts might be an untapped source of easy revenue? Deleted accounts that continue to send signals could indicate that a new homeowner, tenant, or business has moved in. Even better... it also means the system you installed isn't being monitored by another company! Consider the significant financial value that re-signing just one deleted account has to your company: Not only are you saving the account creation costs of attracting, signing, and installing new customers, just one deleted account represents about $1,000 worth of equity to your company! ($30 RMR times a 35 multiple = $1,050). The cost savings and financial benefit is so great that it makes sense to make a focused effort to contact each and every one of your deleted accounts that continue to send signals! Addressing These Accounts Quickly is Important Not only because it adds value and contributes to the efficiency of our systems that continue to monitor your paying customers, but also because systems that appear to be operational but are no longer monitored could give your customer a false sense of security. Your customer may still wish to have central station monitoring. The only way to know for certain is to contact the homeowner or business operator at the premises. Plus, the longer you wait, the longer your customer has to find monitoring elsewhere. COPS will notify you every month we find deleted accounts that continue to transmit signals. If you want to check more often, you may also view these accounts in the Deleted Still Transmitting Report, found under General Reports on MPower. Potential Source of Leads and Revenue How to Reinstate a Deleted Account If you find the customer does indeed require central station monitoring... Congratulations! Reinstating a deleted account is just like activating a new account, which means you must either re-enter the account on MPower, or send the information to our Data Entry Department. Deleted Accounts That Continue to Transmit If you cannot contact the customer, or the customer does not wish to have their system monitored, it is important to disconnect the system from sending signals to COPS receivers as soon as possible. Please note that canceled accounts that continue to transmit signals in 3 of a rolling 12 month period will incur a nominal fee.
